Investing in a better bedroom

Investing in a better bedroom
Your bedroom should be one of your favourite parts of your home; somewhere that you feel relaxed and happy. If your bedroom has you uninspired and waking up feeling flat, it is time to make some changes.

A quality bed
For the sake of your health, happiness and overall quality of life, you NEED a good bed, and while a quality bed may set you back a pretty penny it is a worthwhile investment if you can afford it. Sleeping on an unsupportive bed can lead to long-term issues with your back, neck and spine. Even a good bed won’t last forever, so if you have had the same bed for more than the last 5 years it may be time to upgrade.

Smart storage
Unless you are a fan of chaos and clutter you will need plenty of bedroom storage; start by adding drawers under your bed, putting up corner shelves and hanging hooks anywhere that you can. Using large wicker baskets can provide an effective way to keep your laundry pile contained yet out of sight, and if you have a lot of clothes, hats or shoes consider treating yourself to a walk-in wardrobe!

Set the tone with paint
The way that the walls and ceiling of your bedroom are painted will have a huge impact on how it looks and feels in there. Using light colours in a small space will make it feel a lot larger and using dark colours in a large space can help to bring the walls in considerably. Don’t rush into choosing your colours as you will have to look at them every day once they are painted, and if you are stuck for ideas look online at what others are doing with their bedrooms.

Add some art
Art provides a fantastic way to add a personal touch to a room and there is nowhere better to do so than your bedroom. Hanging photos you have taken or art you made when you were a kid can be an adorable touch, and incorporating pieces that reflect a hidden side of you will establish an intimate atmosphere. Steer clear of any particularly intense art as this may be the first thing you see every morning.

Plenty of light and darkness
The lighting in your bedroom matters and both light and dark are equally important. If you are reading, knitting or doing anything that requires vision in there, having plenty of light is essential if you want to avoid straining your eyes. If you don’t get much natural light in your bedroom adding a few lamps will certainly help. You also need a way to block out the light if you have any hope of getting a quality sleep, and hanging heavy curtains can be an effective solution.

Soundproof it
The quieter your bedroom is the more relaxing it will feel. Whether you invest in double-paned windows, hang heavy curtains or have wool carpet laid, boosting your bedroom soundproofing will make it feel far more like a sanctuary.
